Rome: stories of stones, quarries, and ingenious visionaries
As part of the "Scuola Aperta" project, promoted by the City of Rome, students from the "Via Santi Savarino" Comprehensive Institute have created an ecomuseum dedicated to the geological history of the area and the sense of belonging to places.
This innovative educational program enhances the relationship between nature, culture, and collective memory, demonstrating how geology can become a narrative, an identity, and an active citizenship.

On the occasion of the 17th National Mining Day, the "Via Santi Savarino" I.C. opens its doors to the public and offers a discussion on the role of schools as a mine of ideas, a place for dialogue and in-depth study of scientific and cultural topics.
The day's theme invites students, families, citizens, and experts to immerse themselves in the stories of visionary scientists and miners who discovered, cultivated, and sculpted the stones from which Rome was built.
Through presentations by geologists and university professors, the city's millennia-long evolution will be reconstructed, and there will be time to reflect on the challenges posed by the energy transition, such as sustainability and the circular economy.
The goal is to understand how raw materials, always at the foundation of economic and social evolution, can today accompany a more responsible, resilient, and landscape-friendly urban transition.
ISPRA researchers will participate at the event
