Water4ALL
Water4All -Water Security for the Planet - is a European Partnership co-funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme.
Officially launched on 1 June 2022, Water4All is a ten-year programme divided into three phases, with a total budget of €290 million from Member States and the European Community.
The Partnership's primary goal is to promote long-term water security by supporting systemic changes throughout the entire research and innovation (R&I) chain in the water sector.
The Partnership aims to create a direct link between problem owners and solution providers, with a commitment to ensuring universal access to water and contributing to improving the quality of life in Europe and around the world.
The Water4All Consortium brings together over 90 European and non-European partners from the R&I sectors, including national and regional funding bodies, policy makers, scientific institutions and key economic players.
The Partnership's activities are structured around seven key Research and Innovation (R&I) themes, as defined in the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) – the project's strategic reference document, published in 2022 and currently being updated.
Water4All promotes a broad portfolio of multinational and cross-sector initiatives, ranging from the physical and biological sciences to the human and social sciences. The project adopts a systemic approach, promoting innovation and the practical implementation of solutions by policymakers, end users, and society as a whole.
The Water4All mission
The Water4All Partnership's mission is to promote sustainable and resilient water resource management. To this end, it provides the water sector with scientific knowledge, advanced methodologies and operational tools to support strategic planning and decision-making. A central aspect of this is improving the active involvement of citizens by including them in decision-making processes, promoting public participation, developing skills, increasing transparency, and fostering collective accountability. The Partnership is also dedicated to protecting, restoring and regenerating groundwater and surface water, as well as the ecosystems they support.
A key part of the Partnership's work involves developing demonstration projects, from the pilot phase to operational implementation, to test and encourage the adoption of technical and non-technical solutions that support water security.
Water4All also aims to strengthen policy alignment and effectiveness by contributing to the implementation of European and international action plans and regulatory frameworks influencing water resource management.
Finally, the Partnership promotes efficient, structured collaboration in R&D activities and facilitates shared access to knowledge, data, and digital services dedicated to the water sector.
Water4All: ISPRA's role in the European Water Partnership
ISPRA, through the coordination of the National Environmental Information System Service (DG-SINA), actively participates in the Water4All Partnership, contributing directly to the implementation of its strategic activities. The Institute is involved in numerous key actions within the thematic pillars and also provides operational support to the overall management of the partnership, within Pillar 0.
