New Italy Country Profile in the EEA Report 2025
In September 2025, the European Environment Agency (EEA) published the report “Europe’s Environment 2025”, the most comprehensive and up-to-date analysis of the state of the environment, climate, and sustainability in Europe. Based on data from 38 countries, the report provides a thorough assessment of major environmental trends and future challenges at the continental level.
The report was prepared in close collaboration with the European Environment Information and Observation Network (Eionet), which brings together experts and researchers from the 32 EEA member countries and six cooperating countries.
One of the main innovations of the 2025 edition is the introduction of “Country Profiles,” national profiles that summarize trends in environment, climate, and socioeconomic development in individual countries, analyzing key aspects related to energy systems, mobility, and the food sector.
The Country Profile dedicated to Italy offers a concise overview of key developments in three fundamental areas:
- Environment and climate;
- Socioeconomic changes;
- Systemic transitions (energy, mobility, food).
The document highlights progress, critical issues, and measures adopted by the country on its path toward greater sustainability. The analysis was prepared by Italian experts from the Eionet network based on 20 indicators defined by the EEA and Eurostat.
The national Country Profile can be consulted here.

“The European Environment Agency launches the search for new Topic Centres for the 2027–2030 period”
The European Environment Agency (EEA) has launched the selection process for new Topic Centres for the 2027–2030 period. Topic Centres are an essential component of the relationship between the EEA and the European Environment Information and Observation Network (Eionet), ensuring the flow of data, information, and analysis between the European level and the Agency’s member countries.
Topic Centres support the EEA in the collection, verification, and assessment of environmental and climate data that EU Member States are required to report in accordance with European legislation and other reporting obligations.
To be selected as a Topic Centre and establish a contractual relationship with the EEA, an organization must first be designated as a Topic Centre Organisation (TCO). A call for expressions of interest for the designation of TCOs is currently open.
The deadline for submitting expressions of interest is 31 March 2026 at 23:59.*
