Annual Meeting Italian Soil Partnership

The Annual Meeting Italian Soil Partnership will be held in Rome on May 4, promoted by the Agriculture and Environment Center and the Center for Policies and Bioeconomy of CREA as part of the SOILHUB Project and the 2014-2020 National Rural Network Project (Project 5.1). The program of the day is divided into three distinct sessions, the first - Global Soil Partnership - FAO Scenarios and initiatives in the field, will be held in the morning, while in the afternoon the Round Table will be held - Possible synergies between the Partnership on the soil and GSP, which will see the participation of Annamaria Bevivino, and finally the last session which will coincide with the closing of the proceedings.

Studying and protecting pollinators in the National Parks of the Alps

Since 2020, the four Alpine National Parks (Dolomiti Bellunesi, Gran Paradiso, Stelvio and Val Grande) have started a project for the protection of pollinators, thanks to funding from the Ministry of Ecological Transition. For this reason, research has been carried out on butterflies, wild bees, and environmental quality monitoring activities using wild pollinators and honey bees as bioindicators.

Catwild project

The Maremma Natural History Museum, in collaboration with ISPRA and the Ministry for the Ecological Transition, has promoted a project focused on creating a National integrated database of the species (namely Felis DB) to collect all the available data on the species in Italy (genetic data, morphometric and phenotypic data, camera trapping and remote sensing data, necropsy and pathogens, GPS data), combining historical (such as the database created by Prof. Bernardino Ragni) with current data. Starting from the database and going on by surveying, taking photos, collecting carcasses and biological samples, and taking care of injured animals, the project aims to deepen our knowledge about the European wildcat in Italy.

The biennial meeting of the delegations of 197 signatory countries of the United Nations Convention for the Fight against Desertification and the Effects of Drought - UNCCD will take place in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) from 9 to 20 May 2022, during which the sessions will be held of the Fifteenth Conference of the Parties (COP 15) and of the Subsidiary Bodies, i.e. the Twentieth Session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 20) and the Fifteenth Session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST 15). Italy has been a signatory of the UNCCD since 1994.

Tales of Biodiversity - Cycling and Climate Change

In the fifth episode, Jacopo met Matteo Lener and Francesca Fornasier, who ride their bicycles through one of the 200 sites of the Natura 2000 network in Italy. Together they saw how it is possible to explore the forest ecosystem in a sustainable way by following protected paths and green areas. Finally, the two researchers took stock of the problems relating to climate change and indicated some actions to be followed to mitigate its effects.

The new General Director of the Institute took office today

On the occasion of Maria Siclari's inauguration as the new General Manager of ISPRA, a meeting was held this morning with the newly hired employees of the Institute, together with the President Stefano Laporta. "You will be the strength on which the Institute and the National System for Environmental Protection will rest in the coming years to consolidate their role on the Italian and European scene. And good work to Maria Siclari. We have the privilege of being part of a scientific institution that aims to find the balance between research, sustainability and economic progress.
