The opening-up of European energy markets continues to be the
core of the EU's energy policy.
The completion of the Internal Energy Market is supposed to bring
about a competitive market, thus reducing costs for companies and
bringing more welfare to consumers. Consistent liberalisation
should also promote investments, stimulate energy efficiency and
improve security of energy supply.
