First session of the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Panel on Chemicals, Waste and Pollution (ISP CWP)
From 2 to 6 February 2026, the first session of the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Panel on Chemicals, Waste and Pollution (ISP-CWP) will take place in Geneva, at the International Conference Centre (CICG). The ISP-CWP is a new UN-established intergovernmental scientific body focused on the management of chemicals and waste and the prevention of pollution, and is dedicated to strengthening the science–policy interface in this field.

The Panel was established on 20 June 2025 in Punta del Este (Uruguay) during the Intergovernmental Meeting (IM) convened by the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), in implementation of the mandate conferred by United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) Resolution 5/8 (2022).
The Plenary will be tasked with electing the Bureau, adopting the Rules of Procedure (RoP), designating the seat of the Secretariat, and reviewing and adopting the main operational policies—including the Conflict of Interest (CoI) policy, the procedures for the preparation of deliverables, and the process for the adoption of the Panel’s first work programme. It will also initiate the financial mechanisms and establish the trust fund, as well as define the intersessional work and preparations for the second Plenary.
Representing ISPRA at the Plenary will be Simone Marzeddu, member of the Hazardous Substances Section (DG-TEC), appointed as a member of the Italian delegation, together with representatives from the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) and the National Research Council (CNR).
