Major EU funding secured for IMPEL network: ISPRA at the forefront of environmental cooperation in Europe

ISPRA plays an active and strategic role in the IMPEL network (European Union Network for the Implementation and Enforcement of Environmental Law), with a seat on the Board and contributions to all five thematic Expert Teams: Industry & Air, Cross Cutting, Waste & TFS, Nature Protection, and Water & Land.

We are pleased to announce that IMPEL has secured over €5 million in funding from the European Commission's DG Environment for the 2025–2027 period.

The current IMPEL Chair – Marco Falconi, an ISPRA representative – described this as the most significant financial contribution ever awarded to the network, with the majority of the funds dedicated to implementing technical and operational projects.

This is a historic milestone made possible by the collective efforts of the entire IMPEL structure: the General Assembly, Board, Program Steering Committee, Expert Teams, Secretariat, and our Practitioners,” the Chair emphasized. “ISPRA has been an integral part of this success, with dozens of colleagues sharing their expertise or benefiting from peer exchanges with other European countries.

This funding is both a recognition of IMPEL’s growing impact and an opportunity to further strengthen European cooperation in the implementation of environmental law, promoting a more consistent, effective, and collaborative approach across member states.
