The bilateral cooperation, explored in depth in a multi-day seminar entitled "Scientific-technological research and higher education applied to marine sciences", has the aim of strengthening cooperation in these disciplines, through the establishment of networks of universities and Research Centers, within the framework of the already existing cooperation relationships between the promoting bodies started with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. The synergies between these Italian and Chinese organizations are focused on the development of common scientific projects, now also facilitated by the inauguration of the joint laboratory "Functional Biology of Marine Biota" concerning studies on the functionality of the marine biome in response to anthropogenic impacts and climate change .
The establishment of the joint laboratory will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience between the two countries, strengthening the scientific collaborations already developed for over 15 years between ISPRA and ZJOU on issues relating to the Center for Technological Innovations applied to the Sea of the ISPRA headquarters in Livorno.
The meetings were attended by Dr. Isabella Buttino for ISPRA, the scientific attaché of our Embassy in Beijing, the head of the Chinese Department for International Collaboration and the President of the Zhejiang Oceanography University (ZJOU).
