The Jeju-do meeting, co-hosted by the Government of the Republic of Korea and the Korea Environment Institute (KEI), focuses on two elements:
The Summary for Policymakers (SPM) drafting meeting: The SPM is an important component of GEO-7. It highlights key messages and summarizes findings relevant to policy making. A select number of authors, led by the assessment co-chairs, will meet to finalize key issues in the preparation of the Second Order Draft of the SPM, which will undergo an intergovernmental peer review process, followed by negotiation and approval by Member States at the end of October 2025.
The finalization of the MESAG validation opinion: The validation of GEO reports is a process by which the Multidisciplinary Expert Scientific Advisory Group (MESAG) provides its assessment and approval of compliance with the procedures for preparing the GEO report and its scientific integrity.
In addition to these two events, GEO-7 experts will also participate in the celebrations of World Environment Day 2025 and the Science-Policy Forum of the Korea Environment Institute.
Lorenzo Ciccarese will participate in the Jeju-do meeting, representing MASE, and as president of Open Ended Meetings and member of MESAG.
