XIII Edition of Planet Earth Week

Earth Week is a science festival that, since 2012, has annually transformed Italy into a stage for science and nature, with the aim of spreading knowledge of the geosciences and raising public awareness of the value of our geological, environmental, and cultural heritage.

The 13th edition of Earth Week will take place from October 5th to 12th, an event that will involve ISPRA researchers in an intense scientific outreach program. The initiative will offer the opportunity to explore the complex connection between geology, the sea, biodiversity, and our country's historical and cultural heritage, highlighting the fundamental role of public outreach in understanding and sustainably managing our environment.

ISPRA is organizing two excursions:

Monterano: geology, nature, and history in the open air - Saturday, October 11, 2025
The Monterano Regional Nature Reserve (RM) invites you on a fascinating itinerary that combines geology, biodiversity, and history, immersing you in volcanic landscapes, from active solfataras and dense forests to Etruscan tombs carved into the hillside, and arriving at the imposing ruins of the ancient city of Monterano. The excursion will offer an opportunity to observe volcanic deposits, local hydrogeology, and rare orchid species. In just a few kilometers, you will pass from arid environments to lush forests, discovering the natural richness and volcanic activity of northern Lazio.

Coastlines, timelines: Santa Severa between nature and culture - Sunday, October 12, 2025
An excursion along the coast of Santa Severa, to observe marine and coastal environments rich in biodiversity, geological outcrops, and archaeological remains of the ancient city of Pyrgi and its castle. This stretch of coast is home to Posidonia oceanica seabeds, submerged reefs, and brackish ponds that are home to aquatic bird species. Visitors will be able to observe the impact of climate change and rising sea levels on the landscape and archaeological heritage, highlighting the importance of studying the interaction between natural processes and human activities.

Registration will be open next 24/09/2025
