ITALY and ENVIRONMENT: Status, Prospects and Scenarios

The new ISPRA report offers citizens, technicians, researchers, observers, and policy makers an accurate analysis of the state of the environment in Italy, considering the main European economic-environmental strategies (Green Deal, 8th EAP).

"What’s the state of the environment in Italy?", "Are we heading towards desirable direction?". These are the questions the paper attempts to answer using the broad data & information basis available in ISPRA.

The overall reading of the country's environmental conditions is joined by an assessment of trends and future scenarios with respect to national and international goals, as well as an interpretation of trends in current environmental phenomena.

The state of the environment is illustrated according to the priorities under the 8th EAP, so the environmental issues covered are Climate Change, Circular Economy, Toward Zero Pollution, Biodiversity and Natural Capital. These are the most urgent environmental challenges which need greater and more coordinated international efforts to be solved.

The analysis of the main indicators time series in the ISPRA’s Environmental Indicators Database (https://indicatoriambientali.isprambiente.it/) allows to illustrate prospects and scenarios, achieved and achievable results.
