An analytical procedure to measure the hydrocarbons with C > 12 is reported. The procedure has been developed from a working group in the frame of the 2010-2012 working program of the Environmental Agencies Director’s Board. ARPA/APPA (Regional/Provincial Agency for Environmental Protection), ISS (Istituto Superiore di Sanità), CNR-IRSA (National Research Council- Water Research Institute), CRA (Agricultural Research Council) and ISPRA (Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) have participated at the working group.  The procedure adapted the ISO 16703:2004, measurements of hydrocarbon C10-C40 in soil, to the national normative request, i.e. measurement of hydrocarbon with C>12. Precision data (repeatability and reproducibility) were assessed trough a collaborative study organized by ISPRA. The Environmental Agencies Director’s Board adopted this procedure as reference for the System ISPRA/ARPA/APPA.
