The implementation of numerical models of flow and transport of contaminants in groundwater is becoming increasingly important, either in the context of remediation procedures for contaminated sites with the purpose of defining and planning interventions for the safety and remediation of groundwater, and at the basin or sub-basin scale for the characterization and management of groundwater resources.  In this context, it is of primary importance that public administrations and control bodies, as auditors or reviewers of the models themselves, have a methodological reference that guides the implementation on the one hand, and the evaluation of numerical models on the other.  

Companies involved in offshore oil and gas production activities operating on the Italian continental shelf are required to carry out environmental monitoring in order to obtain information on the actual and potential environmental impacts of Produced Water (PW) discharged in the sea for the marine ecosystem. Such activities are regulated under D. Lgs. 152/2006 (art.104) and the guidelines are a result of an ISPRA advisory group appointed by the Environmental Ministry (now MITE).

This Manual, which was developed within the context of the Agreement signed by ISPRA and Consorzio CINEAS on 25/09/2020, addresses the issue of fires at waste facilities under two different aspects – the prevention of environmental damage and the management of environmental emergencies – and aims to provide the authorities and the operators with a different view as to identify practices, solutions and proposals.

The first report on the contaminated sites management at regional level is a result of the cooperation between SNPA and Regions/Autonomous Provinces and provides an overview of the existing information and the analysis of the available data at present.

In the framework of its activity on national operational hydrology, the Italian National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research has developed a distributed water budget model named BIGBANG – Bilancio Idrologico GIS Based a scala Nazionale su Griglia regolare, aimed at evaluating the hydrological water budget components at monthly scale.

This document summarizes the official Italian submission of the greenhouse gas inventory in the framework of the United Nation Convention of Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Kyoto Protocol, and the European Union’s Greenhouse Gas Monitoring Mechanism.

The overall objective of this report is to provide countries with relevant examples of indicators, which may be used in pursuing domestic monitoring tasks as well as in reporting on progress towards implementation and achievement on Parties’ NDCs. 

The 2021 Report on Waste from Economic Activities, which presents data relating to the year 2019, is now in its twentieth edition and it’s the result of a complex activity of data collection, analysis and processing  by the National Centre for Waste and Circular Economy of ISPRA, with the contribution of regional and provincial Environmental Protection Agencies. It fulfill a specific task required by article 189, D.Lgs. n. 152 of 3th April 2006. The presentation conference, held in the presence of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, represents an opportunity for discussion with the main stakeholders on how the waste management system is reacting to the Covid-19 emergency.
