Assessing the bioenergy potential of forest and out of forest in Latium

The increase of use of woody biomass for Energy purposes represents a strategic deed in the efforts to supply domestic and local energy sources and to mitigate the emissions into the atmosphere of greenhouse gases (GHGs). Of course, the supply of this energy source has to respect the pledge of environmental sustainability and the safeguard of natural resources. Main objective of this report is describe the chain of bioenergy supply in the Lazio region, thus providing basis for the development of a sustainable and easy to use methodology, to apply to other Italian regions and other countries of Mediterranean Basin. Concerning the data described in the report, it is possible to note that the amount of sustainably-sourced bioenergy from forest and out-of-forest (including short rotation forestry new planting) is about 0.2 million tonnes of oil equivalent, corresponding to about 2% of total regional energy needs.
