The Oricola-Carsoli (AQ) intermontane basin: geological, geomorphological and applicative aspects

Geological, geomorphological and applicative aspects

The basin of Oricola-Carsoli is located a few kilometers from Rome, between Lazio and Abruzzo. It is a large tectonic depression, site of an ancient and vast lake basin, located on the contact between the paleogeographic domain of Lazio-Abruzzo and of transition Sabine one. It is of particular interest because: i) among the Quaternary tectonic depressions of significant amplitude, it is the southernmost of the "Olevano-Antrodoco" line; ii) it is filled by a succession of continental sediments of considerable thickness and extension; iii) it is site of a peculiar local monogenic medium-pleistocenic volcanism. These are the main reasons that led to the realization of this book, where geological, geomorphological, volcanological and geological applications data have been collected, analyzed and discussed and that have allowed the reconstruction of the main stages of development of a unique territory, moreover rich of important historic, archaeological and natural relevance.
