Report on Non-Municipal Waste - edition 2018
The Report on Non-Municipal Waste, now in its seventeenth edition, is the result of a complex activity of collection, analysis and processing of data by the National Centre for Waste cycle of ISPRA, with the contribution of regional and provincial Environmental Protection Agencies, that implements a specific task required by article 189, d.lgs. n. 152 of 3th April 2006.

World Day to Combat Desertification
The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is observed every year to promote public awareness of international efforts to combat desertification. The day is a unique moment to remind everyone that land degradation neutrality is achievable through problem-solving, strong community involvement and co-operation at all levels. The theme chosen by the UN General Assembly for this year is : "Land has true value - invest in it". For this reason the Council for research in agriculture and the analysis of the agrarian economy (Crea) and ISPRA have foreseen the inclusion of this celebration within the  XXI National Agrometeorology Conference to be held in Rome from 19 to 21 June.

Report on Non-Municipal Waste - edition 2018
The Report on Non-Municipal Waste, now in its seventeenth edition, is the result of a complex activity of collection, analysis and processing of data by the National Centre for Waste cycle of ISPRA, with the contribution of regional and provincial Environmental Protection Agencies,  that implements a specific task required by article 189, d.lgs. n. 152 of 3th April 2006. Through an effective and comprehensive system of knowledge on waste, it will provide an objective, accurate and up to date framework of information, in support of the legislator to guide appropriate policies and to monitor their effectiveness, introducing, if necessary, corrective measures. Municipal Waste 2018 provides data related to year 2016, about generation and management of non-hazardous and hazardous waste, at national and regional level, and about management also at provincial level; the Report contains information on the transboundary shipment of waste.

Mining parks, an unusual and fun tourism
Why we should visit a mine? The answer in the first spot of Remi (National Network of Italian Mining Parks and Museums), produced by ISPRA TV to promote mining tourism in Italy. Last year (in December 2017), more than 200 thousand people visited at least one of the 41 sites or mining parks that are part of the national network, with an average of about 4 thousand visitors per mine and 500 tourists per day.

INDICIT Spot Project
The European project INDICT  uses Caretta caretta sea turtles as indicators of the impact of plastics on Mediterranean animals. The Carette caretta are widely spread in various habitats and have the characteristic of ingesting marine litter. Also ISPRA, INDICIT project includes international partners from Greece, Spain, the Canary Islands, the Azores, France, Tunisia and Turkey.

Biodiversity World Day
Climate change, invasive alien species and habitat destruction: all numbers on biodiversity and threats to its conservation The current rate of animal and plant extinction species is 100 to 1,000 times higher than that recorded in pre-human times. Scientists believe that our world facing the sixth mass extinction, due to anthropic causes, even higher than the one that marked the dinosaurs extinction, 65 million years ago. From 1500 to date, there are 765 extinct documented species, including 79 mammals, 145 birds, 36 amphibians. Currently the extinctions are proceeding at the rate of between 10 and 690 species per week.

Kick-off conference of the LIFE16 "By bike through the Natura 2000 network-Sic2Sic"
The Sic2Sic trip starts from Friuli Venezia Giulia on 29 May 2018 and for 20 weeks between 2018 and 2019  crossing Italy and covering six thousand kilometers.   The project, lead by ISPRA, with also the participation of different partners l to make aware citizens, schools, businesses and institutions of the significance and importance of the Natura 2000 network. The project includes bicycle routes that, in the space of two years, will connect 170 Italian sites of the Natura 2000 network for a total of 6,000 km, distributed in 20 weekly journeys across 7 regions.

Every day we make decisions that can have an impact on the environment. The completion video "I LIVE GREEN", by ISPRA's NRC for Communication and organized by the European Environmental Agency (EEA), invites all Europeans to show their creativity and share their actions to help the environment. The best videos will receive a cash prize.

Ideambiente n. 4/2017
