Towards a national plan of biodiversity monitoring: the manuals for species and habitats of Community Interest

Document Actions

Rome, 19-20 October

The commitments arising from EU directives impose on our country the implementation of specific actions to protect the natural environment. In particular the Habitats Directive requires the preparation of periodic reports based on data from the monitoring of species and habitats listed in the annexes of this Community law. This task requires a significant commitment from the Ministry of Environment, Regions and Autonomous Provinces, national Protected Areas. In this regard, ISPRA has been providing for years technical and scientific support to the national and local authorities.

Towards a national plan of biodiversity monitoring: the manuals for species and habitats of Community Interest

In particular, ISPRA has coordinated the technical and scientific aspects of the 3rd report ex-Art. 17 of the Habitats Directive, relating to the period 2007-2012, and afterwards has developed monitoring sheets of all Italians species and habitats of  Community interest, in order to provide operational tools for the preparation of the 4th Report for the period 2013-2018.
ISPRA worked in coordination with the Regions and Autonomous Provinces, with the support of the main National Scientific Societies. On the occasion of the Congress, monitoring sheets will be presented, collected in three separate volumes, which will be distributed to participants.
