Heraklion, Greece – The MedJICARP project, funded by the Interreg NEXT MED programme and coordinated by the Oceanography Centre of the University of Cyprus, has officially launched its activities with a two-day inaugural meeting (20–21 November 2025) at the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR).
The event brought together partners from eight countries to establish the operational and technical foundations of the project, which aims to strengthen climate resilience in the Eastern Mediterranean through oceanographic monitoring and the sharing of best practices.
Meeting programme:

Day 1: Project and partner presentations, technical-financial overview, focus on communication and the three main work packages (Ocean Data Observatory, Digital Hub, Capacity-building). The day concluded with a visit to the CRETAquarium Thalassokosmos and a networking session.

Day 2: Technical workshop on best practices for oceanographic sensors, FerryBox systems, and fixed platforms.
This meeting marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration to develop innovative tools and train local communities, contributing to a more effective response to climate change in the Mediterranean.
