Towards a big data revolution for the Planet: Third High Level Expert Group Meeting

From 8th to 10th July, ISPRA and the European Space Agency will host the Third High Level Expert Group Meeting on Big Data of the UN Science Policy Business Forum on the Environment at ESA-ESRIN headquarters in Frascati. This technical High-Level event under the theme “Towards a big data revolution for the Planet: from Uncertainty to Opportunity” will focus on four main objectives, each addressing a key component of Big Data’s role in environmental sustainability. In a rapidly shifting geopolitical context, the need for high-quality environmental data is greater than ever.

Moreover, the UNEP/MAP Regional Activity Centre for Information and Communication (INFO/RAC), operational at ISPRA since 2010 plays a key role in the management of data and environmental information within the Mediterranean Action Plan. Through INFO/RAC, ISPRA contributes to the regional efforts of enhancing data-sharing and interoperability in the Mediterranean, ensuring that environmental information flows effectively between countries and institutions.

This meeting represents a significant occasion for comparison in the definition process of the strategy and support by the key stakeholders, both at institutional and private level.

The invitation addressed to ISPRA by the UN Science Policy Business Forum to host the Third High Level Expert Group Meeting reveals as a significant recognition of the Institution’s key role in the management of environmental data, in the science-policy interface and in sustainability contexts.
