This Booklet offers an overview of the actions proposed by the Italian municipalities participating in the experimental program of interventions for adaptation to climate change in urban areas, launched in 2021 by the Ministry of Ecological Transition (now the Ministry for the Environment and Energy Security), in collaboration with ISPRA and ANCI.

The Report on Waste from Economic Activities, now in its twenty-second edition, is the result of a complex activity of collection, analysis and processing of data by the National Centre for Waste and Circular Economy of ISPRA, with the contribution of regional and provincial Environmental Protection Agencies. The Report implements a specific task required by article 189, of legislative decree. n. 152 of 3th April 2006.

The report contains the results of a project aimed at collecting data on navigation traffic in a few Italian harbors. A model has been used to calculate emissions estimate. A huge amount of data is necessary to perform a precise evaluation of emissions from the shipping sector.

The monitoring of hydrogeological risk mitigation measures, that ISPRA has been carrying out for more than twenty-five years on behalf of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE), highlights that in many cases measures planning and design does not take into account adequately the typological characteristics of the hazards and the relationships between them and the elements exposed to risk in the area

Environment in Italy: an overview. Environmental Data Yearbook 2022 is a statistical report produced by ISPRA with the aim of providing policy makers, public administrators, technicians and citizens with official information on the state of the environment in our country.

The new ISPRA report offers citizens, technicians, researchers, observers, and policy makers an accurate analysis of the state of the environment in Italy, considering the main European economic-environmental strategies (Green Deal, 8 th EAP).

On MASE’s request ISPRA has elaborated a guideline in order to define criteria to assess long term trend analysis of those priority substances that tend to accumulate in sediment and/or biota.

With the study of the stable isotopes of carbon and nitrogen it is possible to quantify the contribution to the total organic substance deriving either from the natural transformation of the biotic component or from anthropic sources such as, for example, urban and/or industrial waste. Recent research has demonstrated the effectiveness of such investigations in the identification and evaluation of contributions to organic matter deriving from multiple sources, in fact the stable isotopes of carbon and nitrogen show an isotopic composition characteristic of the source from which they originate.

Radon, classified by the WHO and IARC as a Group 1 human carcinogen, is the second leading cause of lung cancer death after smoking. Under specific conditions, it tends to accumulate in indoor living environments, posing a significant health risk. Occupancy in inadequately designed and constructed buildings with unsuitable materials, and cases where management and maintenance are not performed correctly and consistently, can lead to adverse health effects not only for radon risk but also for elevated levels of chemical and microbiological agents

The Land Consumption Atlas is part of the products created by ISPRA and the SNPA on the topics of land consumption, the state of the territory and settlements, the impacts on ecosystem services and degradation. In particular, it aims to contribute to knowledge, awareness and the formation of a critical conscience on these issues
