The monitoring of environmental radioactivity in Italy is developed by a system of regional and national monitoring networks, entered in the European context. This system has the task of monitoring the state of the environment, to register any anomalies and to support the assessments in the event of accidental events.

The Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea and ISPRA, as part of an agreement to carry out scientific and technological activities, have given special attention to the prevention of risks of exposition to ionizing radiation by reinforcing the effectiveness and efficiency of the national system of environmental radioactivity monitoring.

With the participation of 21 regional and provincial Agencies of the environmental protection (ARPA / APPA) were planned and processed 16 products including manuals, guidelines and methodologies of which have contributed 60 experts of the National System for Environmental Protection, National Institute of Health, the Ministry of Health, ENEA and the Italian Red Cross.

The two days will focus  to the presentation of the results achieved and the debate on the monitoring of environmental radioactivity in Italy and on potential sources of exposition of the population to ionizing radiation, including radon and radioactive materials of natural origin (NORM).

The event also will be associated with the XLVII Meeting of the "national network of environmental radioactivity monitoring - RESORAD" for a technical comparison between the stakeholders.
