The 7th Summer School on Marine and Coastal Geology, Ecology and Biology takes place on Salina
A week of training, research and field activities for students, researchers and technical professionals. At the heart of the programme is the study and protection of marine and coastal environments.
The 7th Summer School on Marine and Coastal Geology, Ecology and Biology in Island Environments began on September 7 on Salina. The initiative is dedicated to advanced training and scientific professional development for Master's students, PhD candidates, researchers and technical professionals.
Now in its seventh edition, the Summer School aims to bring together different areas of expertise and disciplines to deepen knowledge of marine and coastal environments. These are particularly sensitive systems where geological processes, marine dynamics, biodiversity, human activities and climate change interact.

The programme covers a wide range of topics, from marine and coastal geology to marine ecology and biology, from geomorphology to natural hazards, as well as the study of Posidonia oceanica, benthic habitats, microplastics, ocean acidification and anthropogenic impacts.
The Summer School, developed as part of the School of Specialization in Environmental Sciences, is the result of a collaboration between ISPRA, the Department of Earth Sciences of Sapienza University of Rome, and the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences of the University of Cagliari. The initiative is supported and endorsed by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, the Italian Hydrographic Institute, the Italian Geological Society and its Marine Geology Section, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, the Joint Research Unit EMSO Italia, and the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection of Sicily. Special thanks go to the Municipality of Salina, which hosts the initiative and supports its organisation
