The initiative aimed to establish an integrated biodiversity monitoring system capable of generating consistent, comparable and interoperable data on terrestrial and marine natural habitats, wildlife, fish species and water quality. Within the project’s governance framework, led by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) with the involvement of Protected Area management authorities and specialised operators, ISPRA played a technical and scientific coordination role.

“With DigitAP, ISPRA has helped bring about a fundamental turning point in biodiversity monitoring across our protected areas.I SPRA has mobilised a substantial team of highly qualified professionals, combining fieldwork, extensive technical and scientific support, training for the personnel working in Protected Areas, and a strong drive towards digitalisation" explained ISPRA President Alessandra Gallone.

“ISPRA has designed and developed the DigitAP cloud infrastructure and created a comprehensive digital platform featuring a dedicated website, interactive dashboards and communication initiatives, making this extraordinary wealth of information accessible to everyone,” adds the ISPRA President.

“Knowledge is the first tool for protecting biodiversity, a value we must pass on to future generations,” Gallone concludes.
