Climate Change and its Scientific Evidence: Understanding and Taking Action!

EXPERIENCE DAYS – Interconnections between Climate, Health and Environment, organized as part of the PNC project “Climate and Co-benefits for Health and Equity”, in collaboration with ISPRA, DEP Lazio, CNR-IFT, and UNIPA.

These training days are designed as a space for discussion and hands-on learning, where participants can explore data, discover multidisciplinary tools for analysis and planning, and propose solutions, together with experts from various institutions available to engage with students.

ISPRA Venice participates in the "WORKERS IN THE SADDLE" Living Lab

A constructive discussion to promote cycling and sustainable mobility
ISPRA participated in the "LAVORATORI IN SELLA" Living Lab, organized by the City of Venice as part of the European LAMO project (Local Authorities on the path to sustainable Urban Mobility in the Adriatic/Ionian region), dedicated to the topic of cycling.
The meeting, which involved strategic stakeholders from the local socio-cultural and economic landscape—companies, public administrations, associations, and citizens—aimed at stimulating collective reflection and gathering concrete proposals to encourage cycling among workers, leveraging the contribution of local companies as catalysts for positive change.

Festival Planet Earth

Pianeta Terra Festival is an event for all who wish to explore our extraordinary common home and reflect on ways to preserve and inhabit it sustainably. It is a multidisciplinary event: we will discuss ecosystems, climate, new economic models, energy, agriculture, food, urban development, as well as new political, social, philosophical, anthropological, and artistic visions.

Polish delegation visits ISPRA to promote EMAS

Today, ISPRA hosted a Polish delegation composed of two representatives of the General Directorate for Environmental Protection – the Competent Body for the EMAS Regulation – and a representative of the Ministry of Climate and the Environment, as part of a project dedicated to promoting EMAS in Poland.

Italy was chosen as the reference country because it is among the Member States with the most advanced EMAS participation.

The visit represented an important opportunity for discussion and the exchange of best practices, with the shared goal of strengthening the dissemination of EMAS at the European level.

ISPRA thanks the Polish delegation for their fruitful collaboration.

Project LIFE Help

Presentation of a new index to communicate environmental improvement

In recent years, the complexity of environmental and regulatory data has made it difficult for local authorities to coordinate and communicate their actions effectively. To respond to this challenge, the WA2NNA-BEST index, developed by the LIFE HELP project, will be presented in Rome on 18 June 2025: a self-assessment tool designed to support EMAS municipalities and local administrations in monitoring and communicating environmental performance. The index covers six thematic areas – air, water, waste, noise, biodiversity, energy/climate – and is based on scientifically sound indicators that are consistent with current regulations. The conference will illustrate how this tool can simplify environmental communication, strengthen transparency towards citizens, encourage the exchange of good practices and contribute to achieving the objectives of the 2030 Agenda

“Green Team: together for environment and health” – A day dedicated to sustainability in Palermo with students, experts and institutions

On 23 May 23 the city of Palermo hosts “Green Team: together for environment and health”, a special event within the Sustainable Development Festival, promoted by ASviS. The day, which will take place at the CNR Research Area (via Ugo La Malfa) and at Villa Trabia, is aimed at schools in the Sicilian capital and focuses on the crucial issues of environment, health and climate change.

The landscape and beauty of our cities. A walk through Italy 2025

On May 22, 2025, the event "The landscape and beauty of our cities. Walk through Italy 2025" will take place in Bologna, with the participation of operators and experts in the sector at international, national and local level, as well as the President of the National Committee for the development of public green spaces.
For ISPRA, Silvia Brini, Head of the Area for monitoring air quality and operational climatology, will illustrate the PNRR-PNC project "Vebs - The good use of green and blue spaces for the promotion of health and well-being", launched in 2023 and implemented with the technical and financial support of the Ministry of Health.

Energy efficiency strategies and advantages for SMEs

A meeting designed for Small and Medium Enterprises that will discuss how to improve corporate energy efficiency, identify and reduce waste, adopt strategies to optimize consumption and take advantage of available incentives. Environmental certifications will also be explored and concrete examples of companies that have already adopted effective solutions to improve their competitiveness and sustainability will be shared.

Municipal green plans: tools to bring nature back into our lives?

Bringing nature back into our lives: this is what the European Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 says. And since the lives of millions and millions of citizens are concentrated in cities and in the increasingly anthropized contexts of our territories, it is from the cities that we must start again to reverse the trend of the progressive degradation of ecosystems, including urban ones.
The new publication "Urban nature Plans: tools to bring nature back into our lives? - produced and published by Urban Area section - It therefore starts from the cities to reflect on a planning tool that is still not very widespread in Italy - the Municipal Green Plan - with the aim of understanding its contents, strategies and transformative potential for healthier, more inclusive and resilient territories. Torino, Vercelli, Bolzano, Padova, Rovigo, Parma, Bologna, Forlì, Livorno, Avellino: these are the 10 Green Plans analyzed.

Representatives of MASE, ANCI and ICLEI have been invited to the webinar and the program includes technical insights and a session dedicated to Municipalities.

Territories and sustainable development objectives

The presentation event of the ASviS Report on Territories 2024 will be held on 13 December in Rome. The document illustrates, through data and graphs, the positioning of Regions, Provinces, metropolitan cities, urban areas and Municipalities with respect to the achievement of the 17 Development Objectives sustainability (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, but not only.

The research also includes a review of international and European experiences of territorialization of the SDGs; explores the implementation of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development and its repercussions on local authorities; analyzes territorial inequalities and cohesion policies from both a European and national point of view; identifies the natural and anthropogenic risks that our country is facing, such as heat waves, desertification and forest fires. The final chapters are dedicated respectively to a selection of good practices already implemented in the territories and the ASviS proposals on priority themes.

The effects of the new European legislation on ecodesign and 'Green Claims' on voluntary EMAS, Ecolabel and Made Green in Italy certifications

The conference "The implications of the new European legislation on ecodesign and 'Green Claims' on voluntary EMAS, Ecolabel and Made Green in Italy certifications" will be held on 9 December in Florence, organized by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security in collaboration with the Ecolabel and Ecoaudit Committee and with the Istituto Superiore S. Anna of Pisa. The event is dedicated to the examination of voluntary certification systems as fundamental tools for the competitiveness of companies in light of the recent regulatory developments that are emerging on the EU legislation front, starting from the new regulation on the Ecodesign of products (regulation EU 2024/1781) and the directives on “Greenwashing” and “Green Claims”.

Eco - Festival of Sustainable Mobility and Smart Cities

ECO, the Festival of Sustainable Mobility and Intelligent Cities which, after the first edition last year in Padova it will be held in Rome to analyze the state of the art of the ecological transition, will take place on 17 and 18 September at the Roman Aquarium in terms of transport of people and goods in Italy

Agriculture, biodiversity and sustainable development: scenarios and virtuous paths

Over time, agricultural activity has determined the modification of natural ecosystems, transforming and reorganizing them into systems in which the balance between natural elements is different from the original one, precisely due to the impact of human activities on the environment. The 2030 Agenda through the SDGs promotes, in particular, a transformative change in economies and societies by promoting a new approach at a global level that better integrates the protection of biodiversity with government policies.

Mobility and territory: towards more intelligent and sustainable mobility

The event, which will take place on May 23rd at the Tecnopolo in Reggio Emilia, aims to delve deeper into the characteristics, benefits and potential of Mobility Management, offering an overview of the latest experiences and solutions adopted at a national and international level. The results of UNIMORE research on the management of Mobility Management in companies will also be presented.

The environmental challenge for sustainable finance

Methodologies, information and environmental indicators

The event will be an opportunity for an analysis of the characteristics of the new European legislative framework on sustainable finance, within which tools have been introduced to reorient private sector investments towards sustainable activities.

The implementation of the legislation will lead to an expansion of the subjects involved in sustainability reporting which will go from the current 11,700 to around 50,000 companies at a European level and from around 200 companies to more than 4,000 at an Italian level.

During the event ISPRA will present a study on 'Environmental information for sustainable finance' in which it intends to provide useful and supportive elements to businesses, investors and banks, to correctly understand the contents of the information underlying environmental reporting and the ways to generate some of this information required by the new standards.

The event will also be a useful opportunity to stimulate discussion between institutional representatives, those from the business world and the banking/financial sector.

CER - Sustainable Communities: opportunities and tools to enhance people and territories

The Conference is an important opportunity for discussion on the topic of Communities and in particular CER - Renewable Energy Communities - an innovative model of energy management that involves local public bodies, companies, commercial activities and private citizens, generating throughout the territory social and economic benefits.

Sustainable Development Festival 2024

The Sustainable Development Festival is promoted by the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS) with the aim of raising awareness among citizens, young generations, businesses, associations and institutions on the issues of economic, social and environmental sustainability.
An opportunity to spread the culture of sustainability and achieve a cultural change that allows Italy to implement the United Nations 2030 Agenda and achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Festival has also been recognized by the United Nations as an innovative and unique initiative at an international level, twice ranking as a finalist in the SDGs Action Awards.

Measuring EU Tourism Environmental Impacts: Setting the frame

The Webinar is organized by the group of experts of the Commission for the tourism ecosystem T4T (Together for Tourism), (in which ISPRA participates) established in June 2023 by DG GROW to assist the European Commission in the implementation of the transition pathway for tourism.

Bioeconomy Changemakers Festival

From 11 to 17 March 2024, the European Commission organized the Bioeconomy Changemakers Festival, a week of events on the bioeconomy to make young people more aware of the ecological and sustainable transition, and involve them personally as actors of change. APRE and FVA New Media Research with the GenB project, ScienzaInsieme, and Cluster SPRING, will organize the Italian satellite event “Bioeconomy Changemakers Festival – Rome Edition”.

An effective tool to understand the state of the environment in Italy
Developed with a view to improvement, to face increasingly pressing environmental challenges and to satisfy new knowledge needs, including future scenarios, the ISPRA environmental indicators database disseminates detailed statistical information in a dynamic and timely manner characterized by a high scientific solidity.

Green and health are the future of our cities

As part of the Myplant & Garden event (International Green Expo) at the Milan - Rho fair, the conference "Green and health are the future of our cities" will be held on 21 February which sees the participation of operators and experts from the sector at national and international level who will discuss with the local administrators of the cities of Avellino, Milan, Turin and Rome. ISPRA will illustrate the PNRR-PNC project "The good use of green and blue spaces for the promotion of well-being and health (VeBS)", started in 2013.

ISPRA joins the communication campaign "M'illumino di meno"

National day of energy saving and sustainable lifestyles
M'illumino di Meno is the "National Day of Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles" that Rai Radio 2 with Caterpillar has organized annually since 2005 to spread the culture of environmental sustainability and resource saving. “No borders”, in fact, is the title of the twentieth edition of the initiative that looks far ahead and extinguishes borders. Inviting everyone to seek international alliances in their membership, through twinning for municipalities, international projects for schools, universities and research, offices abroad for companies.

February 5, the ISPRA - MIMIT campaign for the day dedicated to food waste

National Food Waste Prevention Day is celebrated on February 5th. This anniversary has a clear reference to concrete actions and behaviors to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN Agenda for 2030, in particular 12.3: "halve food waste by 2030".
ISPRA in collaboration and with the financing of MIMIT - Ministry of Made in Italy has created the Let's Circulate campaign to raise consumer awareness on this issue and highlight the impacts that food waste has on the environment

Territories and sustainable development goals

The presentation of the ASviS Report on Territories 2023 will be held on 13 December in Rome. The document illustrates, through data and graphs, the positioning of regions, provinces, metropolitan cities, urban areas and municipalities with respect to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 'Agenda 2030, signed in 2015 by 193 United Nations countries including Italy to guarantee the sustainability of development on an environmental, social and economic level.

21 November - World Tree Day

ISPRA will participate in World Tree Day as part of the citizen science project on urban microforests organized by La Sapienza University.
For the occasion, it would be faced the Let's Circular campaign and the tree as the natural symbol par excellence of the "circular" model that regenerates life.

October 24th is the key stage of the Let's Circular campaign created by ISPRA in collaboration and with the financing of MIMIT - Ministry of Business and Made in Italy.
The event, organized at ISPRA to underline the openness of our Institute to the various stakeholders, was born with a very specific objective: to take stock of the most important stages of the Let's Circular campaign, which began in 2021.

ISPRA and ACI sign a memorandum of understanding to encourage sustainable mobility

The President of ISPRA Stefano Laporta and the President of ACI Angelo Sticchi Damiani have signed a three-year memorandum of understanding, aimed at promoting collaboration on sustainable mobility. In particular, each with their own skills and institutional purposes, they will provide knowledge and professionalism to improve mobility in terms of safety and environmental sustainability.
