Arcangeli A. (2010) ISPRA cetacean monitoring network along fixed transect. Biol. Mar. Mediterr., 17(1): 400-401.

As most EU countries, Italy is required to monitor trends in cetacean status, although there is a gap between policy need and the availability of information and funding. Ferry and other fixed transect survey platforms survey data has considerable potential as a low-cost tool to inform conservation research and policy. From 2007 ISPRA networked a monitoring program, using ferries as a research platform.
