From the ecological point of view Juniperus is notably as an extremely important genus in many parts of the world. Unfortunately seed propagation, the best way to defend biodiversity, is quite hard for many species because the seeds exhibit different kinds of dormancy which can strongly vary even within the same species. Germination and, in general, propagation in Juniperus species is a quite complex issue about which little is known.The work done within the ISTA FTS Committee aimed at collecting information, mainly through abstracts from papers published from 1893 to 2006. Information includes propagation in Juniperus species and related topics like seed dispersal, seed collection, dormancy, dormancy removal, nursery growing, etc. Citations on fire and management may be included for some species.To propagate the species successfully it is important that people have information to aid them in nursery practices.The purpose of the project was to provide an up-to-date bibliography of Juniperus seed research for people working in underdeveloped and developed nations. It was arranged trying to make consultation easy, on the internet or through basic word processing software.

Il genere Juniperus (ginepri) è di grande importanza ecologica in molti paesi del molto. Purtroppo la propagazione per seme, unico modo di preservare la diversità genetica di questo genere, è ostacolata da dormienze complesse di cui si conosce poco. Il lavoro fatto nell’ambito del comitato dell’International Seed Testing Association per lo studio dei semi di alberi e arbusti è stato quello di raccogliere tutte le notizie possibili riguardanti la propagazione del genere Juniperus partendo dall’analisi delle pubblicazioni scientifiche pubblicate tra il 1893 ed il 2006. La bibliografia ragionata contiene 1.010 citazioni.
